A Cherished Member of Idaho’s Racing Family
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Frank Greenough, 57, of Idaho Falls — a beloved and unforgettable member of our racing family whose spirit and enthusiasm touched countless lives at Firebird and beyond.

Alongside his devoted wife Carla, Frank was far more than a competitor. He was a cornerstone of our drag racing community — a larger-than-life personality whose passion, humor, and heart embodied the very best of our sport. Though his towering presence might have seemed intimidating at first, anyone who took a moment to talk with him quickly discovered his warmth, kindness, and genuine love for people and racing alike.

Throughout the years, Frank could always be found at the track — behind the wheel of his Chevelle, supporting Carla in the fiercely competitive Super Pro class, or serving as crew chief for the “Game Over” Junior Dragster driven by Kennedy Vizcarra. His energy and dedication were unmatched, and his enthusiasm was contagious.
One of Frank’s most memorable traditions was his participation back in the day in the Air Firebird Wheelstanding Contest. His blue Chevelle became legendary for its breathtaking, crowd-thrilling launches — earning titles, admiration, and cheers from fans who looked forward to the spectacle every October during the Classic.

“Frank was the epitome of showmanship in the Air Show,” shared Firebird’s Scott New. “He followed his wheelstand peers for many years around the country — whether it was in Byron, Illinois, Norwalk, Ohio, or elsewhere. We’ll never forget those moments when he nearly stood his Chevelle on the bumper. He lived for the excitement of it all.”
What made Frank truly special was more than his success on the track. Together with Carla, he embodied the very heart of drag racing — finding joy not only in competition, but in the friendships, laughter, and strong sense of family that fill the air on race days across Idaho’s racing community.
Frank represented everything we aspire to in this sport: dedication, integrity, sportsmanship, and heart. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of racers who follow in his tire tracks.
To Carla, the Greenough family, and the countless others who share in this loss, we send our deepest sympathies. Frank’s loss is felt deeply across all of us in the New family, the entire Firebird staff and the greater racing community he helped shape and inspire.
