Congratulations to all the year-end divisional champions who were crowned at the NHRA Awards Banquet on Sat. night, January 18, at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Portland, Oregon.

Earning an amazing feat, congratulations goes out to Zach Meziere on his incredible double achievement – clinching both the NHRA Super Pro World Championship and the Division 6 title following his back-to-back titles at the Team Finals over Labor Day weekend in Kent, Wash.! Adding icing to the cake, Zach also received the award for Bracket Racer of the Year – wow!

Rising star Journey Morell took home the Northwest Division Jr. Thunder crown – way to go Journey! She also earned the Jr. Dragster track championship at Firebird to conclude one outstanding year of racing.

And representing the powerhouse Firebird team, Scott New accepted their 9th championship on behalf of all 67 “Fly like an Eagle” team members. What an achievement!

Division Director Mike Eames opened up the ceremonies by revealing the next inductee into the Land of the Leaders Hall of Fame. Veteran Stock and Super Stock racer Jody Lang was a deserving honoree.

Having first started racing in the Sportsman class in 1982, Jody has gone onto win an abundance of divisional and national events, along with an NHRA national championship. Looking back, Jody has secured more wins at Firebird’s Division 6 point’s meet (which originated in 1969) than any other sportsman competitor in the storied history of the Ignitor.

Spanning better than four-plus decades in our sport, Lang received a standing ovation by all in attendance.

The Banquet also awarded a variety of championships to a vast array of racers from all over the northwest and Canada.
