The time has almost arrived for the return of the oldest event on the Firebird track schedule. The 53rd edition of the Ignitor Nitro Opener features AA/Nitro Funny Cars, in addition to the NHRA Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Race Series. The race dates are May 17, 18 & 19.
The NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by The Blower Shop is the second stop in the 2024 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. The season kicked off in grand fashion with the grand daddy Good Vibrations March Meet in Bakersfield.

The Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout will take center stage at Firebird in conjunction with the longest running major drag racing event in the Pacific Northwest. The current pre-entry roster includes the reigning NHRA World Champion and defending Nightfire winner, the “Northwest Hitter” Camaro piloted by Bobby Cottrell. The hot green Camaro is co-owned by Hall of Famer Bucky Austin and Mike O’Brien.
The reigning Ignitor champion returns, too. Drew Austin will drive the potent Mustang campaigned by his father Pat Austin, which won the weather-delayed final round staged in conjunction with the 52nd Nightfire last August.
The open 8-car qualified field will have an opportunity to test on Friday afternoon. Qualifying will officially kickoff with three sessions at Noon, 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Saturday. Sunday’s final eliminations are schedule for high noon.
Sunday, May 19th is First Responder and Military Appreciation Day. All active members of the Armed Forces and Veterans, along with First Responders (Police, Fire, etc.) will be admitted to Sunday’s Ignitor Prime Time Finals for FREE!

Categories offered at this year’s Ignitor include: Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Sportsman Motorcycle, Super Pro and Pro. In addition, special cash bash bonus races will be offered on both Friday and Saturday during the late afternoon/evening. Saturday will be spotlighted with a $5K to win Gambler race.
