For 48 years, the NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Opener has officially kicked off the Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Race Series. Presented by Peterson Chevrolet, nearly 350 racers attended from 12 states and 3 Canadian provinces.

Four-time NHRA national event Funny Car winner Jeff Arend was the man to beat in the “California Hustler” Trans Am. Not only did he qualifying on the pole, but he charged through eliminations with a 5.72, 5.70 and 5.74 to win at his first appearance at Firebird. Arend defeated Shawn Bowen with the New York-based Bartone & Lebor Camaro, finishing at 5.86-224.62.
