The 54th edition of the NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Nitro Opener presented by The Blower Shop returns to Firebird on May 15-18, 2025.
As the longest running major drag race in the Northwest, we look forward to showcasing the thrilling sights of 250 mph AA/Nitro Funny Cars.
The Ignitor marks the first major feature event of the 2025 Season, which is steeped in tradition and prestige. The inaugural winner of the Ignitor in 1971 was none other than Don “the Snake” Prudhomme with his Hot Wheels Funny Car. The Ignitor will be the second stop in the NHRA Heritage Series following the Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet in Bakersfield (in early March). The defending champion is Canadian Nathan Sitko who drives the national record holding Bubble Up Trans Am.
Firebird will also play host to the opening stop in the Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Race Series in May. The 2025 point’s meet will showcase racing in Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Sportsman Motorcycle, Super Pro and Pro eliminators.
Looking back in time, Firebird’s first NHRA World Championship Series meet was staged in 1969. The winners included the likes of Dick Kalivoda (Top Fuel), Austin & Grassi (Top Gas), Bill Landon (Super Eliminator), Ringer & Souders (Comp), Bill Ireland (Super Stock), and Virgin & Taccogno (Stock).
