FRY, AREND, HIX, HANGER & KRABILL WIN PROFESSIONAL CROWNS
One of the oldest major sporting events in the Pacific Northwest is the Pepsi Nightfire Nationals. The signature event of Firebird Raceway takes place in the foothills above Idaho’s capital city of Boise, a 48 year tradition in western Idaho. Both AA/Funny Car and AA/Fuel Dragster took center stage in the 2019 Heritage Series point’s series. In addition, AA/Fuel Altereds and Pro Mods competed on a positively gorgeous weather weekend of action.
Final results are listed below from the four day `n night event.
Additionally, the New family was honored to have both Idaho Governor Brad Little and NHRA President Glen Cromwell on hand for the Nightfire event. Little delivered a proclamation revealing that Sat., Aug. 10, 2019, as Firebird Raceway Day. Both Little and Cromwell, along with dignitaries from the Idaho State Historical Society gathered to congratulate Firebird on its recent listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
Firebird also announced the 17th Jaker Allstar award, which was presented to veteran Top Fuel owner Mike Fuller. At 80 years of age, Fuller has supported the Nightfire for several decades now.
Two new sportsman Allstars were also acknowledge including Rod Page (Bracketeer) and Brandon Umberger (Pro).
Five special Professional awards were also handed out (thanks in part to Mark McCalla): Heidi Austin-Root (Best Back Up Girl), Best Flames: Jon Rick “Nitro Spud”, Best Burnout: Jeff Arend “California Hustler”, Driver with Best Reaction Time in Eliminations: Jim Murphy, and Best Appearing Crew: Mike Maggio & team.
LAFFERTY, UMBERGER (BRANDON & STEVEN) AND PEDRAZA EARN 4-DAY TITLES
The NHRA.TV 4-Night Bracketeer Series officially crowned the 4-day point’s titles. NHRA Wally statues and bonus bucks were awarded to: Bracketeer Champ-Dan Lafferty, Pro-Brandon Umberger, Heavy-Steven Umberger and Sled/Bike-Richard Pedraza.
More special plaques were presented on Sunday to: Jake Neibauer—Quickest Door Car (6.94), Jake Neibauer—Quickest Dragster (6.86), Jeremy Wanders-Quickest Sled/Bike (8.12); Bobby & Tyler Hilton, Cincinnati, Ohio-Long Distance; David Cook—Best Appearing Car and Jim Murphy—Best Engineered.
