The state of Idaho’s premiere motorsport’s experience over the past four and a half decades is the Pepsi Nightfire Nationals.Pepsi Nightfire Nationals Logo

The Pepsi Nightfire Nationals returns to Firebird on August 11-14. Looking back in time, literally the Who’s Who in the sport of drag racing have competed at what is recognized as Firebird’s “Signature Event.” Nationally-recognized names like John Force, Don “the Snake” Prudhomme, Ed “the Ace” McCulloch, Twig Zeigler, Tom “the Mongoose” McEwen, Gordie Bonin and many others have collected Nightfire titles dating back to the beginning in 1972.

The drama and excitement of Nitro will be showcased on Friday through Sunday. One of the strongest fields of Nitro cars will qualify and compete at this year’s event. Categories include: AA/Fuel Dragster, AA/Funny Car and the often unpredictable and wild to watch – AA/Fuel Altered eliminators. In addition, 280 mile per hour Jets and the wheelstanding “Outlaw” Stagecoach of Idaho’s every own Ed Jones will help light-up the skyline nightly, too.

The opening night of Professional qualifying (which kicks off at 7 pm) will take place on Friday Family Night presented by Idaho’s News Channel 7. Saturday of the Nightfire is one of the biggest days of the entire season at Firebird as the Pro Stars compete in a pair of spectacular qualifying sessions at both 2 pm and again at 7 pm under the lights. The Prime Time Finals kick off at 2 pm on Sunday will culminate the four-day and night race. In addition, hundreds of racers battle in the National Dragster Bracketeer Challenge for a combined purse topping $185,000.

There’s a couple of easy ways to capture tickets. You can call the Firebird hotline at 208 938-8986 or you can score advance discount tickets today at region-wide Stinker Stores.

Leading up to the event, be sure and tune into 96.9 The Eagle as they help to present Idaho’s largest motorsports event.
